PARALLEL PERSONA
In this multimedia project, I explore the conflict between personal values and the societal pressures of online self-presentation.
The project is a compelling fusion of digital art and self-reflection, created through artificial intelligence technologies - using a combination of Viggle AI and Stable Diffusion based ComfyUI, equipped with Reactor nodes, controlnets, and face enhancer models. Images of my body and face were transformed onto footage of various social media influencers engaging in current trends.
Nodes and Image that were used for the Face Swaps in ComfyUI.
What defines a social media influencer?
“A social media influencer is an individual who has established credibility in a specific industry, has access to a large audience, and can persuade others by virtue of their authenticity and reach. Influencers often have the power to affect the purchasing decisions of others because of their authority, knowledge, position, or relationship with their audience. They create content and engage with followers on various social media platforms such as Instagram, YouTube, Twitter, and TikTok, influencing trends and opinions in sectors like fashion, gaming, health, and beauty, among others.“ - Chatgpt
The core of this work lies in its engagement with the uncomfortable tension I experience from pressure to constantly share and glamorize my life online, towards my intrinsic desire for privacy and authenticity. Each piece in the series represents a parallel reality where I embody an exaggerated, almost cringe-worthy version of an Social Media influencer—a persona that starkly contrasts with my genuine self.
This project examines how online personas can distort our true selves and perpetuate a cycle of constant self-exposure. It explores the effects of social media on our personal and collective psyches, offering both a critique and a personal reflection on these dynamics.
